The BURMA EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP
The Burma Education Partnership [BEP] developed from the Karen Education Partnership was which was set up in 2002 and worked with the displaced Karen people of Burma. The Karen people were staunch allies of the British during World War Two. They are now suffering from the effects of many years of oppression and brutality.
Currently all of the work of BEP is carried out in Britain and Thailand by unpaid volunteers. Although it is a small organisation BEP takes pride in its highly professional approach. BEP has now placed over forty volunteers on the Thai/Burma border. All volunteer teachers are fully qualified, are subject to police checks and must undergo an induction covering, Burmese/Karen culture and language, working with displaced and vulnerable people and issues of health and safety. All volunteers are required to follow a strict code of conduct and sign an agreement to follow this code. The BEP is a registered charitable company limited by guarantee [Registered Charity No.1115837 Company number 5664251]. It developed from the Karen Education Partnership [KEP: registered charity no: 1092630].
